Alright, so I decided to throw a big bash for my 40th birthday. You know, a proper adult party. I started by brainstorming what kind of food I wanted to serve. I thought, “What’s better than a Gourmet Cheese Platter?” I mean, who doesn’t love cheese, right?
I went to the local cheese shop and picked out a variety of cheeses. I grabbed some soft, creamy brie, a sharp cheddar, a nice chunk of aged gouda, and some tangy blue cheese. I also got some crackers, grapes, and fig jam to go with it. I arranged them all nicely on a big wooden board, and it looked pretty fancy, if I do say so myself.
Next, I figured I needed something a bit more substantial. I remembered these French Pressed Sandwich Bites I saw somewhere, and I thought they looked fun and were pretty easy to make. I got some different kinds of bread, like sourdough, whole wheat, and rye. Then, I made a bunch of different fillings: roast beef with horseradish, turkey with cranberry sauce, and a veggie option with hummus and roasted peppers.
I layered the fillings between the bread, cut off the crusts, and then pressed them down with a heavy book. After chilling them in the fridge for a bit, I cut them into small squares. They looked really colorful and were a big hit with my guests. They were super easy to eat, too, no mess, no fuss.
’70s Party Theme
Since I was turning 40, I thought, why not have a ’70s themed party? So, I told everyone to wear their bell bottoms and groovy outfits. I dug out some old vinyl records, made a playlist of ’70s hits, and even got a disco ball. It was a blast from the past!
For the ’70s food, I kept it simple but fun. I made some mini quiches, deviled eggs, and a big bowl of punch with sherbet. I also put out bowls of chips and dip, and a veggie tray with some creamy ranch dressing. It was all stuff that you might find at a party back in the day.
Throwing this party was a lot of work, but it was totally worth it. Everyone had a great time, and the food was a big hit. Planning a party, whether it’s a small get-together or a big event, is always a great reason to celebrate with some good food. And honestly, seeing all my friends enjoying the food and the ’70s vibe made turning 40 pretty awesome.
The cheese platter was gone in no time, the sandwich bites were a huge success, and everyone loved the retro snacks. I even got compliments on the punch! It was a great night, and it just goes to show that good food and good company are all you need for a fantastic birthday party.
I had such a good time that I am thinking to do it again next year. Maybe I’ll try an ’80s theme with some new food options. Who knows?
- Cheese platter was a success.
- French pressed sandwich was a good idea.
- ’70s themed party was great.
I’m also thinking to write another blog about the ’70s themed party decoration ideas. See you guys next time!
