Alright, let’s talk about them gluten-free biscuits, yeah? You know, the ones for folks who can’t eat that…what’s it called…gluten stuff. My grandkid told me all about it, says it makes some people’s bellies hurt somethin’ fierce.
So, I went and looked around, asked some folks, and even peeked at that internet thingy my grandson’s always fiddlin’ with. Turns out, there’s a whole bunch of these gluten-free biscuit brands out there. Who knew?
Now, I ain’t tried all of ’em, mind you. I’m an old woman, I like what I like. But I heard tell of some good ones. There’s this Schar Maria brand. They got biscuits, little ones, in a bag. Folks seem to like ’em, though I hear they got some other stuff in ’em besides just flour and such. Something called “vital wheat gluten”? Now how’s that gluten-free, I wonder? They also put in some palm oil, salt, and a bunch of other things I can’t even pronounce. Guess that’s how they make them biscuits stick together without the gluten.
Then there’s those biscuits in a can, like Pillsbury Gluten Free and Immaculate Baking Co. My daughter-in-law, she buys them sometimes. Says they’re easy to bake, just pop ‘em in the oven and Bob’s your uncle, you got biscuits. I ain’t too sure about them can biscuits myself, they always seem a bit…I don’t know…artificial-like to me. But hey, if they work for folks, that’s alright.
- Nairns: Heard these are pretty good too. They got different kinds, like plain ones and some with chocolate. Them chocolate ones sound mighty tempting, I gotta say.
- Tesco: This one’s a store brand, I think. My neighbor, she shops there all the time, says they got a whole bunch of gluten-free stuff, biscuits included. Said they’re alright, nothin’ fancy, but they do the job.
And then there’s these fancy biscuits, like them Charleston Biscuit Company ones. Heard they’re real good, made by folks who really know what they’re doin’. The owner, she can’t eat gluten herself, so she makes sure them biscuits are safe for everyone. They say they’re the best biscuits ever, but they probably cost a pretty penny too. Not sure I’d spend my hard-earned money on somethin’ so fancy, but if you got the cash, why not?
There’s also some folks makin’ their own gluten-free biscuits. Like this bakery, it says they make ‘em organic and handmade, the Belgian way. And another one called Northumbrian Fine Foods, they got biscuits called Prewetts. Said they taste so good you won’t wanna share. Now that’s a bold statement! Makes me wanna try one, just to see if they’re tellin’ the truth.
You can even find these biscuits online, on that Amazon place. My grandson showed me. They got all sorts of things there, books and snacks and who knows what else. Said you can read reviews, see what other folks think before you buy. That’s kinda handy, I guess. At least you won’t be buyin’ a pig in a poke, as they say.
And if you’re out and about, even places like McDonald’s, they might have somethin’ you can eat. But you gotta be careful, them breakfast things, they’re usually full of gluten. You gotta ask ‘em to hold the English muffins and the pancakes and the regular biscuits. Maybe you can get some bacon and eggs instead. Or just stick to coffee, that’s always safe.
So, there you have it, a whole mess of gluten-free biscuit brands. Some cheap, some fancy, some in a can, some handmade. You just gotta find what works for you, what tastes good, and what don’t make your belly ache. And if all else fails, you can always try bakin’ your own. That’s what I do sometimes, when I got the time and the energy. Nothin’ beats a good homemade biscuit, even if it don’t have no gluten in it.
Finding gluten-free biscuits ain’t as hard as finding a needle in a haystack no more. Seems like everybody’s making them these days. Just gotta keep your eyes peeled and ask around. And don’t be afraid to try somethin’ new. You might just find your new favorite biscuit!
