Alright, listen up, y’all! I’m gonna tell ya how to make a real quick and easy puddin’, the kind that don’t take all day and don’t need no fancy stuff. My grandbaby, she loves puddin’, and I ain’t got time to be slavin’ in the kitchen all day, you hear?
So first, we gotta talk about what kind of puddin’ you want. You want somethin’ plain and simple, like vanilla? Or maybe you want somethin’ a little bit more excitin’, like chocolate or banana? Don’t matter to me none, it’s your puddin’! But I’m gonna tell ya how to make a vanilla one, and then you can just swap out the flavorin’ if you want.
Now, you got two ways to go about this. You can use one of them instant puddin’ mixes from the store, or you can make it from scratch. The mix is quicker, that’s for sure. If you’re usin’ the mix, it’s easy as pie. Just dump that powder into a bowl, add some milk – the package will tell ya how much – and then you whisk it up good. Whisk it real good, like you’re beatin’ eggs for a cake, until it starts to get thick. Then, if you’re feelin’ fancy, you can fold in some Cool Whip. That’s that stuff in the little tub in the freezer. Or, if you ain’t got Cool Whip, and you wanna be real special, you can whip up some heavy cream. Whip it till it’s nice and fluffy. Fold that in too. And that’s it! Your puddin’ is done. See? I told ya it was quick and easy.
But if you wanna make it from scratch, it’s gonna take a little bit longer, but it’ll taste real good, real homemade-like. You’ll need some milk, some sugar, some cornstarch, a pinch of salt, and some vanilla extract. And an egg, too. Don’t forget the egg, now!
- First, you gotta get yourself a saucepan. Put in about two cups of milk.
- Then, you add about half a cup of sugar. If you like it sweeter, add a little more. If you don’t, add a little less. It ain’t rocket science, y’know.
- Next, you need some cornstarch, about three tablespoons. This is what makes it thick.
- And a pinch of salt. Just a little bit, don’t go crazy.
Now, you stir that all together real good, before you turn on the heat. Make sure there ain’t no lumps. You don’t want lumpy puddin’, nobody wants lumpy puddin’. Then, you put it on the stove over medium heat. You gotta keep stirrin’ it, don’t go wanderin’ off now. Keep stirrin’ until it starts to thicken up. It’ll take a little while, but you gotta be patient.
Once it’s thick enough, like real thick gravy, you gotta temper your egg. Crack an egg into a small bowl and beat it up a little. Then, you take a little bit of that hot puddin’ mixture and slowly drizzle it into the egg, whisking the whole time. You gotta do this slow, or you’ll scramble the egg, and nobody wants scrambled eggs in their puddin’, that’s just nasty. Once you’ve got a good bit of the hot mixture in the egg, you pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan with the rest of the puddin’. And you keep stirrin’.
Keep stirrin’ for another minute or two, until it’s nice and thick and smooth. Then, you take it off the heat and stir in a teaspoon of vanilla extract. Or, like I said before, you can use whatever flavorin’ you want. Banana, chocolate, lemon, whatever your heart desires.
Now, you can pour it into little bowls or cups, or one big bowl, whatever you like. You can eat it warm, or you can let it cool down in the fridge. If you let it cool down, it’ll get even thicker. And you can put some fruit on top, or some whipped cream, or some cookies. Or you can just eat it plain. It’s your puddin’, you do what you want with it.
Puddin’ is a good dessert, see? It ain’t hard to make, and it don’t take a whole lot of time. And it’s cheap too, which is important when you gotta feed a whole family. My grandbaby, she loves it when I make her puddin’, and that makes me happy. So go on now, make yourself some puddin’. You won’t regret it.
And listen, don’t be scared to experiment a little. Maybe you wanna add some cinnamon, or some nutmeg. Maybe you wanna put some chocolate chips in it, or some nuts. Go ahead! The worst that can happen is you gotta throw it out and start over. But even then, it ain’t the end of the world. It’s just puddin’, for cryin’ out loud!
So that’s it, that’s my quick and easy puddin’ recipe. Now you go on and make some, and let me know how it turns out. And don’t forget to share it with your loved ones. That’s the most important part, sharin’ the good stuff with the people you care about.
