They called it the “KING of dim sum.” Okay, I’ll admit, shrimp dumplings are pretty darn good. And guess what? The Chinese characters for that are 虾饺, which literally translates to “shrimp dumpling.” Makes sense.
Here’s what I did next: I grabbed a pen and some paper and started practicing writing those characters. 点心, 虾饺, 点心, 虾饺. Over and over again. My handwriting’s a bit messy, but hey, I’m getting there. And the more I practiced, I found a fact that it originated in the south of China and there are many types of dim sum. That’s cool.

By the end of the day, I felt like a dim sum pro. At least, when it comes to the characters. Now I can impress my friends next time we go for dim sum. I’ll be like, “Hey, did you know ‘dim sum’ is written as 点心?” They’ll be amazed, I’m sure of it. Or maybe not, but hey, at least I learned something new, and I have more knowledge of my favorite dim sum dishes and how to write them in Chinese characters, which is pretty cool.
