Okay, so I’ve been looking for ways to make some extra cash, and I thought, why not try making and selling some crafts? I mean, I’m pretty crafty, and it seems like a fun way to earn a little money on the side. So, I did some digging around on the internet and found some “quick and easy” craft ideas that supposedly sell well. Let me tell you about my little adventure.
First, I decided to try making decorated candles. I figured, who doesn’t love a good candle? I went to the local craft store and bought some plain white candles, some colorful wax dye, and a few different scents.
- I melted down some wax, added the dye and scent, and then dipped the plain candles into the colored wax.
- It was a bit messy, to be honest, and getting the wax to coat evenly was harder than I thought.
- I ended up with some wonky-looking candles, but hey, they smelled nice.
Next up, I thought I’d try my hand at making simple jewelry. I bought some beads, wire, and clasps and started experimenting.
- Making beaded bracelets was pretty straightforward. I just strung the beads onto the wire and added a clasp.
- Those turned out okay, nothing fancy, but wearable.
- Then I tried making earrings. That was a bit more challenging. Getting the wire to bend just right and attaching the ear hooks took some practice.
- I poked myself with the wire a few times, but I managed to make a few decent pairs.
My last project was making hand-painted mugs. I bought some plain ceramic mugs and some special ceramic paint.
- I tried painting some simple designs, like flowers and polka dots.
- The painting part was fun, but the paint took forever to dry.
- And then you have to bake the mugs in the oven to set the paint, which was a whole other process.
- I ended up accidentally burning one of the mugs. Oops!
My thoughts
So, after all that, I had a bunch of candles, some bracelets, a few pairs of earrings, and some hand-painted mugs (minus the burnt one). I set up a little online store, took some pictures of my creations, and waited. It has not been easy but I did it finally. And you know what? Some people actually bought stuff! It wasn’t a ton of money, but it was something. It made me really happy that I can make it.
Honestly, it was a lot more work than I expected. Those “quick and easy” crafts weren’t always so quick or easy. But it was definitely a learning experience. I’m not sure if I’ll get rich selling crafts, but it’s been a fun little side project, and I’ve learned some new skills along the way. Maybe I’ll keep at it, maybe I’ll try something else. Who knows? But for now, I’ve got a few extra bucks in my pocket and a bunch of handmade stuff to show for it. Pretty cool, right?
