Throwing a Mermaid Party? Discover Fun and Yummy Birthday Party Food Inspirations Here!

Alright, so my little one turned the big 5 this year, and guess what? She’s totally obsessed with mermaids! So, of course, we had to throw her a mermaid-themed birthday bash. And let me tell you, planning the food was a whole adventure in itself! I wanted everything to scream “under the sea” without being too complicated, you know?

First up, I got started on figuring out what kind of cake we were gonna have. I mean, the cake is the star of the show, right? I browsed around and saw some seriously fancy mermaid cakes, but I needed something a bit more… doable. Ended up going for a simple two-tiered cake with blue and green frosting to mimic the ocean. I grabbed some edible glitter and some cute mermaid tail toppers online. Easy peasy, and it looked pretty darn good if I do say so myself!

Sweet Stuff

  • Cake Pops: Oh boy, these were a hit! I made some regular cake pops and dipped them in blue candy melts. While they were still wet, I stuck a little fondant mermaid tail on each one. The kids went crazy for them!
  • Parfaits: Now, these looked fancy, but they were super easy to put together. I layered some blue-colored yogurt with crushed cookies (to look like sand) in these little shot glasses. Topped them off with a little fondant shell. They looked so elegant and were a nice, lighter option compared to all the other sugary stuff.

Snacks and Other Stuff

I tried to balance out the sweets with some other snacks. We had “seaweed” veggie sticks (just green bell peppers and cucumbers), and “ocean water” punch (blue Hawaiian Punch with some lemon-lime soda). I also made some “clam” cookies by sandwiching some vanilla frosting between two Nilla wafers and sticking a little candy pearl inside. They were adorable!

Setting everything up was a blast. I got a blue tablecloth to make it feel like we were underwater, and we scattered some seashells and starfish around the table. The kids loved the whole setup, and honestly, so did I! It was a ton of work, but seeing my little mermaid’s face light up made it all worth it.

So yeah, that’s how our mermaid party went down. It was a day full of fun, laughter, and a whole lot of blue food. If you’re planning a mermaid party, I hope my little adventure gives you some ideas. Just remember, it’s all about having fun and making some magical memories!
