Okay, so, I’ve heard a lot about this place called Royal China on Baker Street, especially about their dim sum. I mean, I love a good dumpling, so I decided to check it out.
First off, I found out there are actually two Royal China restaurants right near each other on Baker Street. One is called Royal China Club and looks fancier. I guess that one’s not as focused on dim sum, from what I gathered. But the one I went to, just called Royal China, is apparently super popular for it.
I went around lunchtime because I learned they serve dim sum from noon until 5 PM every day. That sounded perfect! I walked in, got seated, and started looking at the menu. They’ve got all the usual suspects, and some dishes I hadn’t seen before. I decided to play it safe and start with some classics, but I also wanted to try something new.
So, here’s what I ordered:
- Steamed spare ribs – a must-have for me.
- Shrimp dumplings – another classic, can’t go wrong with these.
- Steamed chicken feet – I like them.
- Crab soup dumplings – I saw these on the menu, and they sounded delicious.
The food started arriving pretty quickly. The spare ribs were tender and flavorful. The shrimp dumplings were plump and juicy, just how I like them. The chicken feet were cooked perfectly.
Then came the crab soup dumplings, a bit disappointed. I was so excited to try those and they were not I expected, just so-so, you know.
All in all, it was a good dim sum experience. I’ll definitely go back to try some of their other dishes, maybe some of those duck breast rolls I read about. It’s a busy place, but the service was decent. The vibe is lively, lots of people chatting and enjoying their food. If you’re in the Baker Street area and craving some dim sum, I’d say give Royal China a shot. Just maybe skip the crab soup dumplings.
Final verdict:
Worth a visit, especially if you’re a dim sum fan. Just be prepared for a crowd, and maybe manage your expectations for some dishes.
