Okay, so I’ve been craving something sweet and comforting lately, and custard is always a winner. I found this recipe online that promised a quick and easy version, so I decided to give it a go. Let me tell you, it was so simple! I’m not the best cook, but even I managed to pull this off.

Getting Started
First, I gathered all the ingredients. Thankfully, it was stuff I mostly had in my pantry already:
- Milk (I used whole milk because, why not?)
- Sugar (just regular granulated sugar)
- Eggs (make sure they’re fresh!)
- Cornstarch (this is the secret thickener)
- Vanilla extract (because everything’s better with vanilla)
Making the Magic Happen
I grabbed a saucepan and whisked together the sugar and cornstarch. It’s important to do this before adding any liquid, otherwise, you’ll end up with lumpy custard, and nobody wants that! Then, I slowly poured in the milk while whisking constantly. This part is key – keep whisking to avoid any lumps from forming.
Next, I cracked the eggs into a separate bowl and gave them a good whisk. I tempered the eggs by slowly adding a bit of the warm milk mixture into the eggs, whisking all the while. This prevents the eggs from scrambling when you add them to the hot milk. Don’t rush this step!
Once the eggs were tempered, I poured them into the saucepan with the rest of the milk mixture. I placed the saucepan over medium heat and kept stirring. Seriously, don’t stop stirring, or it’ll stick to the bottom and burn. It took a few minutes, but I started to feel the mixture thickening up. You’ll know it’s ready when it coats the back of a spoon.
Finally I removed it from the heat.

The Finishing Touch
Once it was thick enough, I took the saucepan off the heat and stirred in the vanilla extract. The smell was amazing at this point! I poured the custard into some little bowls and let them cool down a bit before popping them in the fridge. You can eat it warm, but I prefer my custard chilled.
Enjoy the Custard!
And that’s it! Seriously, it was that easy. I ended up with a creamy, delicious custard that took me less than 30 minutes to make. I sprinkled a little cinnamon on top of mine, but you could add fruit, whipped cream, or whatever you like. I’m definitely making this again soon!
