Okay, here is my sharing about how I made quick and easy birthday cards:
So, I found myself in a bit of a pickle. I had a bunch of birthdays coming up and realized I was totally out of birthday cards. And you know how it is, store-bought cards can be so generic and, let’s be honest, kinda pricey. So I thought, why not try making my own? I’m no artist, but I figured I could whip up something decent.
Get the Stuff Ready
First things first, I gathered my supplies. I rummaged through my drawers and found some old cardstock paper. You know the kind, nice and thick, perfect for a sturdy card. I also grabbed a pair of scissors, a ruler, some glue, and a bunch of colorful pens. For extra flair, I dug out some ribbons and a pack of stickers I had lying around from some long-forgotten project.
Make the Card Base
Next up, making the base of the card. I took a sheet of cardstock and, using my ruler, I measured out a rectangle. Nothing fancy, just a good size for a card. Then I folded it in half. I tried both ways, you know, folding it like a hamburger and like a hot dog, to see which style I liked better. I ended up going with the hot dog fold for most of them – it just felt more “card-like” to me.
Write Something
Now for the fun part – decorating! I started by writing a simple message on the front. I kept it basic, things like “Happy Birthday!” or “Thinking of You.” My handwriting isn’t the best, but I figured it added a personal touch. I used my colorful pens to make it pop a bit.
Add Decorations
Then came the embellishments. I cut some ribbons and glued them around the edges of the card. It instantly made the card look a little fancier. I also played around with the stickers. I had some flower stickers and some with cute little animals. I stuck those on, trying not to go overboard, although it was tempting!
Write Inside the Card
Finally, I wrote a more personal message inside the card. I think this is where the homemade touch really shines. I jotted down some inside jokes, some memories, and just generally tried to make the message heartfelt and specific to each person.
The Result
And that’s it! Honestly, the whole process was way easier than I expected. It was actually pretty fun, too. It felt good to get a little crafty and make something with my own two hands. Plus, I saved a bunch of money by not buying those expensive store-bought cards.
My friends and family really seemed to appreciate the effort. They said the cards were unique and thoughtful, which made me feel pretty good. I’m definitely going to do this again. Maybe next time I’ll even try getting a little more artistic with the decorations. Who knows, maybe I’ll even break out the glitter! But for now, I’m pretty happy with my quick and easy birthday cards. They were simple to make, easy on the wallet, and most importantly, made from the heart.
