Quick and Easy Anime Cosplay: Simple Outfits on a Budget

Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get into this whole cosplay thing for a while now, and I finally took the plunge. I wanted something quick and easy, since I’m a total noob. And guess what? I actually pulled it off! Here’s how I did my first ever anime cosplay.

Quick and Easy Anime Cosplay: Simple Outfits on a Budget

First things first, I had to pick a character. I didn’t want to spend hours making some crazy outfit, so I thought about what I already had in my closet. Browsing some ideas online, I remembered someone mentioning “closet cosplay,” which is basically using stuff you already own. That sounded right up my alley.

Then I started looking at some popular, easy characters. I saw some cool ones like Nobara from Jujutsu Kaisen, Hatsune Miku, and Anya Forger. But I’m a big Dragon Ball fan, so I was thinking, “What about Android 17?” Then, like a bolt of lightning, it hit me! L from Death Note! It’s gotta be L! White long-sleeve shirt and jeans? I’ve got tons of those!

  • The Shirt: I rummaged through my drawers and found a plain white long-sleeve that fit the bill perfectly. It was a little wrinkled, but who cares? L isn’t exactly known for his ironing skills.
  • The Pants: Easy peasy. I just grabbed my most comfortable pair of blue jeans. They were a bit faded, which, in my opinion, added to the whole “I’m too busy solving mysteries to care about fashion” vibe.
  • The Hair: I found that the most diffcult part is always the hair. My hair’s kinda short and messy, so I figured I could make it work. I just ran my fingers through it, made it as spiky as possible, and boom! Instant L hair. It was a good call I guess.
  • The Eyes: I don’t wear makeup, but I did try to make my eyes look a bit more tired and intense. I rubbed them a little, not too hard, just enough to get that “I haven’t slept in days” look.
  • The Pose: L’s got this iconic slouch, so I practiced that in front of the mirror. It’s all about hunching your shoulders, letting your arms dangle, and looking like you’re carrying the weight of the world.

And that’s it! I threw on my outfit, did the hair and makeup thing, and struck a few L poses. I even grabbed a lollipop to complete the look. I gotta say, I was pretty impressed with myself. It was so much easier than I thought it would be, and it actually looked pretty good!

This whole experience has definitely made me more excited about cosplay. It’s not just about having the most elaborate costume, it’s about having fun and expressing yourself. I’m already thinking about who I want to cosplay next. Maybe I’ll try something a bit more challenging, or maybe I’ll stick to the easy stuff. Either way, I’m hooked!

So if you’re thinking about trying cosplay, just go for it! You don’t need to be a pro or spend a fortune. Just pick a character you like, get creative with what you have, and most importantly, have fun with it. You might surprise yourself with what you can achieve!

My humble tips for a quick anime cosplay

Here’s a few things I picked up that might help you out:

  • Start with characters whose outfits are mostly regular clothes.
  • Don’t be afraid to improvise and use what you already own.
  • Practice the character’s signature poses and expressions.
  • Don’t stress over perfection, just have a good time!

Alright, that’s all for now. I’m off to go plan my next cosplay adventure. Wish me luck!
