Okay, so, I had this idea to make some sandwich platters for our little get-together, and let me tell you, it was quite the adventure. I started off with a trip to the grocery store. I grabbed a bunch of different kinds of bread – white, wheat, some fancy multigrain, you name it. Then I hit the deli section and picked up some ham, turkey, and roast beef. Of course, I couldn’t forget the cheese! Swiss, cheddar, provolone – gotta have options, right?
Back home, I cleared off the kitchen counter and laid out all the ingredients. It looked like a sandwich assembly line! First, I spread some mayo and mustard on the bread slices. I mixed it up, using different combinations for variety. Then I started piling on the meat and cheese. I made sure to fold the meat nicely so it looked all neat and tidy.
Making the Sandwiches
- Prepare the bread: I laid out all the bread slices on the counter.
- Add condiments: I spread mayo on some and mustard on others. Some got both!
- Layer the fillings: I put ham and Swiss on some, turkey and cheddar on others, and roast beef with provolone.
- Assemble the sandwiches: I topped each with another slice of bread and pressed down gently.
Once the sandwiches were assembled, I took out my biggest knife – the one I usually use for carving the Thanksgiving turkey – and carefully sliced each sandwich into smaller, bite-sized pieces. Some I cut into triangles, others into squares. I wanted to make them easy to grab and eat without making a mess.
Making them Mini
I found this recipe online for Hot Ham and Cheese Mini Sandwiches, and they sounded delicious. The recipe said they’re spicy, tangy, and creamy, perfect for any party. I had some leftover ham and a bunch of cheese, so I thought, why not give it a shot? I followed the instructions, mixing some Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and a bit of brown sugar to make a glaze. Then I brushed it over the mini sandwiches and popped them in the oven. The smell that filled my kitchen was amazing!
While those were baking, I arranged the other sandwiches on a couple of large platters. I made sure to mix and match the different types so it looked colorful and inviting. I even added some little frilly toothpicks to make them look extra fancy. When the hot ham and cheese sandwiches were done, I carefully added them to the platters. They were all crispy and golden brown – just like the recipe promised.
In the end, the platters looked fantastic. A real feast for the eyes! And let me tell you, they were a hit at the party. Everyone loved them, and there wasn’t a single sandwich left by the end of the night. Success! I felt like a real domestic god. I’ll definitely be making these again for our next gathering. Maybe next time I’ll experiment with some different fillings – the possibilities are endless!
