So, I decided to throw an Oscar party this year. It was the first time for me, and I was pretty pumped! I mean, who doesn’t love movies, right? And combining that with a party seemed like a brilliant idea.

First things first, I started brainstorming some food ideas. I wanted to make it somewhat fancy but also easy to handle since I’m not exactly a master chef. Plus, it’s the Oscars, so a bit of glam was needed! I thought about those fancy Hollywood parties with all sorts of finger foods and decided to do something like that but on a smaller scale.
I made a list of some dishes I thought would be good. Since the Oscars are a big deal in America, I wanted some classic American snacks. I remembered seeing a post about Jimmy Kimmel’s Oscar party where they had these cute snack boxes. Inside was a soft pretzel from Shappy Pretzel Co. and mustard, a box of candy, a bottle of water. Each attendee got treated to a different candy, like Mike and Ike and Milk Duds. I thought it was a cool idea, but I wanted to do something different.
Then I stumbled upon this recipe for something called “Gentleman’s Whiskey Bacon Jam”. It sounded so fancy, and the ingredients were simple – just three things. I figured I could make that ahead of time, and it would add a nice touch. I grabbed some pancetta at the grocery store.
I started cooking the bacon jam. It was surprisingly easy. I just had to cook the pancetta until it was crispy and then mix it with the other ingredients. I let it simmer for a while, and the smell was amazing! It was like a sweet and savory explosion in my kitchen.
Next up, I remembered a fun idea for a “Peaches for Parasite” dessert. It was a simple dish that fit the award atmosphere. I started to prepare it, but I realized that I did not have enough time before the party, so I decided to keep it for the next time.
I also decided to bake some chicken, beef, and sea bass. I used some soy sauce for the marinade, not 75 liters like at those big Oscar after-parties, but enough to give it a good flavor. I also threw in some mushrooms, and it turned out pretty tasty if I do say so myself.
Of course, no Oscar party is complete without popcorn! I recently got a new popcorn machine, and I couldn’t wait to use it. I popped a big batch of popcorn and set it out in a large bowl. I also put out some small bags so people could take some home.
- Prepare Gentleman’s Whiskey Bacon Jam
- Bake chicken, beef, and sea bass with soy sauce and mushrooms
- Pop a large batch of popcorn
The party was a hit! Everyone loved the food, especially the bacon jam. It was a perfect mix of fancy and casual, just like I wanted. We watched the awards, cheered for our favorites, and had a great time. I even handed out some fake Oscar ballots for fun! It wasn’t as glamorous as those big Hollywood parties, but it was definitely a night to remember. I’m already thinking about what I’ll do for next year’s party!
