Well, let me tell ya, pickin’ a favorite Chinese takeout dish ain’t easy as pie. There’s so darn many of ’em, all smellin’ good and makin’ your stomach rumble. But if I gotta choose, I gotta choose, right?
First off, gotta say, I love them big portions you get. Always enough to fill ya up and then some, perfect for leftovers the next day, saves ya cookin’ again, see? That’s what I call a good deal.
Now, some folks like that fancy stuff, you know, the Kung Pao Chicken or that Peking Duck. Too spicy or too greasy for my taste, I tell ya. My stomach ain’t what it used to be, gotta go easy on it.
One thing I always get is the wonton soup. It’s warm and comforting, just like a hug in a bowl. The little dumplings inside are soft and the broth is tasty, not too salty, just right. It’s a good starter, gets your belly ready for the main course.
- But the real star of the show, for me at least, is the sweet and sour pork.
- Yeah, I know, some young folks might call it old-fashioned, but I say it’s a classic for a reason.
- Them little pieces of pork are fried up nice and crispy, and that sauce… oh that sauce! It’s tangy and sweet and just coats everything so perfectly.
- And don’t forget the onions and peppers in there, gives it a little bit of a crunch.
I always get it with a big scoop of white rice, of course. Gotta soak up all that extra sauce, wouldn’t wanna waste a drop, see? That’s the best part! The rice gets all mixed up with the sauce and the pork and it’s just…heavenly.
Now, some folks rave about that spicy Sichuan food. They say it’s the real deal, real authentic Chinese. But my old taste buds can’t handle all that heat. My neighbor, Mrs. Johnson, she loves that spicy stuff, always orderin’ somethin’ with “chili” in the name. Me? I stick to my sweet and sour, thank you very much.
And them spring rolls, oh they’re mighty tasty too. Crispy on the outside, filled with vegetables and sometimes a little bit of meat. I like to dip ’em in that duck sauce, adds a little extra sweetness. They’re a good appetizer to share, but honestly, I could eat a whole plate of them myself.
There’s also that chow mein, the noodles with all the vegetables and meat. It’s filling and satisfying, a good choice if you’re really hungry. But I find it a bit too greasy sometimes, so I don’t order it too often. But that reminds me, my grandson loves them noodles, always asks for extra.
And let’s not forget them dumplings. Steamed or fried, they’re both good. I like the steamed ones better though, they’re softer and lighter. The pork filling is my favorite, but the vegetable ones are good too. You can dip ‘em in soy sauce or vinegar, whatever you like. They’re a nice little snack, or you can make a whole meal out of ‘em.
So yeah, sweet and sour pork is my go-to, my absolute favorite. But honestly, there’s so much good food at them Chinese takeout places, it’s hard to go wrong. You get a lot of food for your money, it’s quick and easy, and most importantly, it’s darn tasty. That’s why I keep goin’ back for more, week after week. And ain’t nothin’ wrong with that, is there? Nope, not a thing.
Healthy food? Well, I don’t know much about that. But I figure as long as you eat your vegetables, and don’t eat too much of the fried stuff, you’ll be alright. And if you get the wonton soup, that’s like getting a salad, right? Broth is kinda like liquid vegetables, if you think about it. At least, that’s what I tell myself!
Anyway, that’s my two cents on Chinese takeout. Go on now, get yourself somethin’ tasty. And don’t forget the extra sweet and sour sauce, you can never have too much of that!
