Okay, so I’ve been wanting to make a blanket for, like, forever, but I’m no crochet pro. I finally decided to just go for it. I wanted something quick and easy, because, let’s be real, I’m impatient.

Finding the Right Pattern

First things first, I needed a pattern. I spent a good chunk of one afternoon just browsing. I needed something that wouldn’t make my brain hurt. You know, simple stitches, nothing too fancy.

Gathering My Supplies

After I picked a pattern which is called “granny square”, I made on my way to the craft store. I grabbed a bunch of yarn in colors I liked – went with some soft, chunky stuff. I wanted a very cozy and simple style. And, of course, I needed a crochet hook. The pattern will tell the size of hook.

Getting Started (and Unraveling a Lot)

So, I started. And then I started again. And again. Turns out, even “easy” patterns require some, um, practice. I messed up the first few rows like a million times. I kept losing count of my stitches, or the whole thing would look wonky. I think I spent more time unraveling yarn than actually crocheting for the first hour.

Finally Getting the Hang of It

But! I kept at it. I watched a few videos again. And slowly, I started to get it. The stitches started to look more even. I started to actually see something that resembled a blanket (or at least a small square of one) taking shape. It was actually kind of…relaxing? Once I got into the rhythm, it was pretty satisfying to see the rows grow.

The Never-Ending Project (Just Kidding…Mostly)

It definitely took longer than I thought it would. “Quick” is relative, I guess. But, I stuck with it. I’d crochet a few rows while watching TV, or while listening to a podcast. It became my go-to “chill out” activity.

Finishing Touches and Ta-Da!

Finally, I got to the end! Weaved in all the loose ends (which felt like another project in itself). And…I had a blanket! It’s not perfect. There are definitely a few wonky stitches here and there. But, it’s mine. And it’s cozy. And I made it with my own two hands. Pretty proud of myself, not gonna lie.

So, would I recommend this for a beginner? Totally. Just be prepared for a little bit of a learning curve, and don’t expect to finish it in an afternoon. But if you’re looking for a relaxing project and a super satisfying feeling when you’re done, this is it.
