Well, let me tell ya somethin’ ’bout this millet stuff. Folks keep askin’, “are millets gluten free?” Now, I ain’t no fancy doctor or nothin’, but from what I hear, it’s gluten-free, yes.
These little millet things, they’re like tiny seeds, you know? They grow outta the ground, just like corn or wheat, but they’re different. People all over the world eat ’em. They make all sorts of things with it, like flatbreads – you know, the kind you slap on a hot pan? And porridge, that warm mushy stuff you eat for breakfast. Some folks even make drinks outta it, or mix it with rice and stuff, they call it pilafs or somethin’.
Anyways, back to this gluten thing. Seems like a lot of folks can’t eat gluten these days. Makes their stomachs hurt or somethin’. But millet, it’s supposed to be safe for them. It’s what they call “naturally gluten-free.” Means it ain’t got that gluten stuff in it right from the start, ain’t like they had to take it out or nothin’. It’s just… born that way, I guess.
- It’s good for ya: Now, I ain’t sayin’ it’ll make ya live forever, but they say millet’s got good stuff in it. Anty… antsy… oh, whatever them fancy words are, the stuff that keeps ya healthy. And fiber, ya know, the stuff that helps ya go to the bathroom regular. And protein, the stuff that builds ya up strong, like them bodybuilders on the TV.
- Lotsa ways to eat it: Like I said, you can make all sorts outta this millet. You can grind it up and make bread, or you can cook it whole and eat it like rice. You can even pop it like popcorn, if you believe that! I heard tell some folks even use it to make beer, but I ain’t never seen that myself.
- It’s kinda like other grains: Even though it’s gluten-free, it’s still a grain, you know? Just like rice or corn or oats. So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ different to eat, somethin’ that won’t make your belly rumble the wrong way, millet might be just the ticket.
But listen here, just ’cause it’s gluten-free don’t mean it’s magic, ya hear? You still gotta eat your vegetables and fruits and all that good stuff. And if you got a real bad problem with gluten, you best talk to a doctor, not listen to some old woman like me. They know more than I do, that’s for sure.
So, there ya have it. Millet? Gluten-free? Yep, seems like it is. But don’t take my word for it. Go do your own research, talk to a doctor, and see for yourself. And if you try some millet, let me know how you like it. Maybe I’ll even try some myself, if I can figure out how to cook it right! It can’t be harder than makin’ a good ol’ pot of beans, can it? And that, I can do with my eyes closed!
One more thing, they say this millet is good for the soil too. It don’t need much water, and it can grow in bad soil where other things won’t grow. That’s a good thing, right? Means more food for everyone, even in them dry places where it don’t rain much. So, it’s good for your belly and good for the world, sounds like a win-win to me.
Anyway, that’s all I know about this millet stuff. Hope it helps ya out some. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my chickens. Them birds are always gettin’ into somethin’ they shouldn’t.
