How to Prepare Dim Sum: A Beginners Guide to Making Them!

Okay, so I’ve been wanting to try making dim sum at home for a while now. It always seemed so complicated, but I finally decided to give it a shot. Here’s how it went.

How to Prepare Dim Sum: A Beginners Guide to Making Them!

First, I gathered all the ingredients. I’m not going to lie, this was a bit of a task. I went to a couple of different Asian grocery stores to find everything. It was kind of fun, though, like a little treasure hunt.

Once I had everything, I started with the dough. For some of the dim sum, you need to make your own dough, and let me tell you, it’s a workout! I kneaded and kneaded until my arms were sore. But hey, who needs a gym when you can make dim sum, right?

Making the Fillings

  • I made a few different fillings, I chopped up some shrimp and mixed it with some seasonings for the shrimp dumplings.
  • Then I cooked some ground pork with some veggies for another filling. It all smelled so good while it was cooking!

Next came the fun part – assembling! I rolled out the dough and started filling them with my delicious concoctions. I won’t lie, my first few attempts looked a little… sad. But I kept practicing, and they started to look a bit more like actual dim sum.

Then, I steamed some and pan-fried others. Steaming was definitely easier. I just popped them in my steamer basket and let them cook. Pan-frying was a little trickier. I had to make sure they didn’t stick to the pan, but they turned out nice and crispy.

Finally, it was time to eat! I brewed some tea to go with my homemade dim sum. I have to say, I was pretty proud of myself. They weren’t perfect, but they were definitely tasty. And it was so satisfying to know that I made them myself.

It was a lot of work, but it was also a lot of fun. I definitely learned a lot, and I’m already planning my next dim sum adventure. Maybe next time I’ll try making some different fillings. Or maybe I’ll try to master the art of making those cute little buns. The possibilities are endless!

So, if you’re thinking about trying to make dim sum at home, I say go for it! It’s a great way to challenge yourself in the kitchen and enjoy some delicious food. Just be prepared to put in some work, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. That’s how you learn, right?

Anyway, that’s my dim sum story. Hope you enjoyed it! I’m off to eat some more of my creations now. Bye!
