First Steps: Eating Everything in Sight

My initial strategy was pretty straightforward: eat. Eat everything. I stopped caring about “healthy” and “balanced.” If it looked tasty and had calories, it was going down the hatch. I started my days with huge breakfasts. We’re talking pancakes, bacon, eggs, the whole nine yards. Lunch was double portions of whatever I could find. Fast food became my best friend. Burgers, fries, you name it, I was chowing down.

  • Increased meal frequency: I went from three meals a day to like, five or six.
  • Snacked constantly: Chips, cookies, candy bars, anything I could get my hands on.
  • Loaded up on carbs and fats: Pasta, bread, pizza, ice cream, basically all the good stuff.

Getting Serious: The Calorie Surplus

After a while, just eating everything wasn’t cutting it. I mean, I gained a little weight, but not as much as I wanted. So I got a bit more scientific about it. I started tracking my calories. Figured out how many I needed to eat to be in a surplus. Let me tell you, it was a lot more than I was used to. I had to force-feed myself sometimes.

Then, I started paying more attention to what I was eating, not just how much. I focused on calorie-dense foods. Stuff that packed a lot of calories into a small volume. Think peanut butter, nuts, whole milk, cheese, that sort of thing. I drank a lot of my calories, too. Smoothies with protein powder, whole milk, and fruit were a regular thing.

The Lazy Factor: Cutting Down on Movement

Here’s where I really embraced the “easy” part of getting fat. I basically stopped exercising. Walked less, took the elevator instead of the stairs, just generally became a couch potato. Any calories I burned were calories I wasn’t using to gain weight, right? That was my logic, anyway.

The Result: Mission Accomplished (Sort Of)

So, did I get fat? Yeah, I did. I put on a decent amount of weight. Not sure exactly how much, but my clothes definitely fit tighter. I’m not skinny anymore, that’s for sure. Was it quick? Not really. It took some time and effort, even with all the eating and lack of exercise. Was it easy? Well, eating a ton of food was pretty easy, I guess. But feeling full all the time and not being able to move around as much, that part wasn’t so great.
