Okay, so, I’ve been meaning to get into this whole “foodie” thing, right? And what better way to start than with dim sum? I mean, who doesn’t love those little bite-sized wonders? So, I decided to tackle this head-on. I wanted to find the best dim sum spots without spending hours doing research and decided to use a popular restaurant review site to help me out.
Finding a Good Place
First, I grabbed my phone and opened up the Zomato app. I have used it a few times before to find some good restaurants and it helped me to find good options easily. I typed “dim sum” in the search bar and then selected “near me” using my current location, figuring that was a good starting point. Man, there were so many options! It was a bit overwhelming, to be honest.
So, I started scrolling through the results, I looked through customer reviews, menus and photos. Then, I looked at the ratings – anything below a 4 was a no-go. I also checked out the photos. If the dumplings looked sad and deflated, I swiped left. Gotta have that plump, juicy goodness, you know?
Narrowing Down the Choices
After a good 20 minutes of this, I narrowed it down to three places that looked promising. One had a ton of reviews about their amazing soup dumplings, another had pictures of these adorable pig-shaped buns, and the third was a bit more upscale but had a killer view.
I decided to go with the place with the soup dumplings. I mean, soup dumplings! They are the best. My mouth was already watering. I used the app to reserve a table easily. I called the restaurant to confirm my reservation for a table of two was successful. The restaurant was small so it was packed.
The Dim Sum Experience
We got there, and the place was buzzing. It was one of those small and packed restaurants. The food smelled really good. We were seated, and a friendly waiter came over with a menu and a checklist. You basically tick off what you want, and they bring it out steaming hot in bamboo baskets.
We ordered a bunch of stuff – soup dumplings (obviously), shrimp dumplings, BBQ pork buns, sticky rice, and some veggie spring rolls. We might have gone a little overboard, but hey, go big or go home, right?
- Soup Dumplings: These were the stars of the show. Little pockets of savory broth and pork exploded in my mouth. Pure heaven.
- Shrimp Dumplings: These were plump and juicy, with a nice springy texture. Dipped in a bit of chili oil, they were perfect.
- BBQ Pork Buns: Fluffy and slightly sweet, with a generous amount of savory pork filling. These were gone in seconds.
- Sticky Rice: Wrapped in lotus leaves, this was fragrant and flavorful. A nice change of pace from the dumplings.
- Veggie Spring Rolls: Crispy and light, these were a good way to get some greens in.
The Verdict
All in all, it was a fantastic dim sum experience. Zomato totally delivered. I’m definitely going to be using it more often to find new places to eat. And I’m officially hooked on dim sum. Next time, I’m going for those pig-shaped buns!
