Okay, so, I gotta tell you about my dim sum adventure in Los Angeles. I’m not a local, so I had to do some digging. Turns out, the San Gabriel Valley is like the dim sum capital of the U.S. I’m talking about places like Rosemead and Arcadia.
First, I had to choose a place. I read something about Lunasia Chinese Cuisine in Alhambra. It sounded pretty fancy, so I thought, why not? Then there was Sea Harbour in Rosemead. It seemed a bit more expensive, but I heard it’s perfect for brunch and impressing people. I also found some top ten dim sum carts like Golden Dragon Restaurant, Bao Dim Sum House, NBC Seafood Restaurant, and Mama Lu’s Dumpling House. After a lot of back and forth, I had a restaurant. I went to Mama Lu’s Dumpling House.
Off to Mama Lu’s Dumpling House
- Getting there: I hopped in my car, punched the address into my GPS, and hit the road. Traffic was typical LA, but I got there eventually.
- First impressions: The place was bustling, which is always a good sign. I saw a mix of families, couples, and groups of friends, all chowing down.
- The ordering process: They had menus, so I just pointed at the pictures of what I wanted. Easy peasy.
- The food: Oh man, the food. I started with some har gow (shrimp dumplings) and siu mai (pork dumplings). They were juicy and flavorful. Then I got some char siu bao (barbecue pork buns), and those were fluffy and delicious. I also tried some chicken feet, because why not? They were surprisingly good!
- The experience: I loved the hustle and bustle of the place. The servers were quick, and the food came out fast. I felt like I was getting a real authentic dim sum experience.
After stuffing myself, I paid the bill, which was pretty reasonable, and walked out with a full belly and a smile on my face. If you’re ever in LA and craving some good dim sum, definitely check out Mama Lu’s Dumpling House. You won’t regret it!
This dim sum adventure made me realize that exploring a city’s food scene is like a treasure hunt. You never know what gems you’ll find. I’m already thinking about my next food adventure. Maybe I’ll try those dumpling places next time. But for now, I’m just happy I got to experience some of the best dim sum in Los Angeles.
