Alright, so today I decided to tackle the gluten-free goodies at Buttercup Bake Shop. I’ve heard mixed reviews, but being the adventurous eater that I am, I had to give it a shot myself.
First off, I walked into the bakery, and let me tell you, the smell of freshly baked treats was heavenly. I almost forgot I was there for the gluten-free stuff. I noticed their gluten-free section was a bit smaller compared to the regular offerings, but hey, quality over quantity, right?
I picked out a few things that caught my eye: a chocolate cupcake, a red velvet whoopie pie, and a slice of their vanilla bean cake. They looked pretty darn good, I must say. I was cautiously optimistic.
The Taste Test
Once I got home, I dug right in. First up, the chocolate cupcake. The frosting was rich and creamy, just the way I like it. The cake itself was… interesting. It had a slightly denser texture than a regular cupcake, but it was still moist. It wasn’t overly sweet, which I appreciated. It wasn’t bad, but it definitely tasted “gluten-free,” you know?
Next, the red velvet whoopie pie. Now, this was a surprise. The filling was super fluffy and tangy, and the “pie” part was soft and chewy. It was surprisingly delicious! I would definitely get this again. It didn’t have that distinct gluten-free taste that some of the other items had. Success!
- Chocolate Cupcake: Okay, a bit dense but moist.
- Red Velvet Whoopie Pie: Surprisingly delicious! Would get again.
- Vanilla Bean Cake: Tasted like a regular cake, a bit dry.
Finally, the vanilla bean cake. This one was the most “normal” tasting of the bunch. It tasted pretty much like a regular vanilla cake. The texture was a tad dry, but that could easily be fixed with a dollop of extra frosting or a glass of milk. It was a solid effort, for sure.
Overall, my Buttercup Bake Shop gluten-free adventure was a mixed bag. Some items were definite winners, while others were just okay. I guess that’s the way the cookie crumbles (gluten-free, of course) when it comes to gluten-free baking. I definitely see what all the fuss is about, even with the gluten-free limitations. Would I go back? Probably. Would I get everything again? Maybe not. But hey, that red velvet whoopie pie is calling my name!
So, that’s my experience at the Buttercup Bake Shop. Not bad, not amazing, but a good option when you’re craving something sweet and don’t want the gluten.
