So, the other day I was in Chicago, right? And my stomach started rumbling, like big time. I had a serious craving for some dim sum. I mean, who doesn’t love those little bite-sized delights? I’d heard a lot about Chinatown’s food scene, so I figured, “Why not give it a shot?”
First things first, I did a quick search on my phone. You know, just to get an idea of what was out there. I found this website that listed a bunch of places in Chinatown. The smells in Chinatown were something else, I tell you. A mix of spices, teas, and who knows what else. It was intense, but in a good way. I was just walking down the street. There are so many restaurants, I got a little lost.
I ended up choosing this place called MingHin Cuisine. I just had a good feeling about it, plus there was a bit of a line, which is usually a good sign, yeah? I decided to get some food for takeout, because I wanted to eat at home.
I went inside and there were so many delicious food. The staff were all super busy, running around with plates of food. I saw the classic dishes – har gow, siu mai, char siu bao. But then I saw some things I’d never tried before, like these deep-fried taro puffs and some kind of rice noodle rolls with shrimp. I got so excited. I ordered a little bit of everything, naturally.
Waiting for my order, I watched the people around me. There were families, couples, friends, all kinds of people. There were people from all over the world, it seemed – Black, white, Arab, Latin, you name it. Everyone was just enjoying their food and having a good time. It was a really cool vibe.
Finally, my order was ready. I grabbed my food, thanked the staff, and headed home. I couldn’t wait to dig in!
Once I got home, I laid everything out on the table. It was a feast! I started with the har gow, because that’s my favorite. And oh my god, it was so good. The shrimp was plump and juicy, and the dumpling wrapper was perfectly thin and chewy. Then I tried the siu mai, which was also delicious. The char siu bao was fluffy and filled with sweet and savory pork. I ate everything!
After eating all that dim sum, I was stuffed. But it was so worth it. I think I found my new favorite dim sum spot in Chicago. I’m already planning my next trip back!
