Craving Deep Fried Dim Sum? Check These Out!

Alright, folks, so I decided to get a little adventurous in the kitchen today. I’ve always loved those crispy, crunchy dim sum goodies you get at restaurants, the ones that are clearly deep-fried to perfection. So, I thought, “Why not try making some at home?” Spoiler alert: it was messy, a little chaotic, but ultimately, delicious.

Gettin’ Started

First things first, I gathered my ingredients. Now, I’m no expert, so I went with some pre-made frozen stuff. You know, spring rolls, some dumplings that looked promising, and a few of those sesame ball things. Hey, gotta start somewhere, right?

Next up was the oil. I used regular vegetable oil because that’s what I had on hand. I poured a good amount into my biggest pot – enough to make sure the dim sum would be fully submerged. Don’t want any half-fried sadness here!

Heat Time!

I cranked up the heat to medium-high. I don’t have one of those fancy thermometers, so I just kinda eyeballed it. I waited until the oil started shimmering, and then I did the classic “flick a drop of water in” test. If it sizzles and pops, you’re good to go. (Be careful with that, though! Hot oil is no joke.)

The Frying Begins…

This is where things got interesting. I carefully lowered a few spring rolls into the hot oil using some tongs. Man, did they sizzle! I made sure not to overcrowd the pot, because I heard that makes the oil temperature drop and you end up with soggy food. Nobody wants that.

I let them fry for a few minutes, flipping them over with the tongs until they were golden brown and looked super crispy. Then, I scooped them out and placed them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain off the excess oil.

  • First batch – spring rolls! Success!
  • Second batch – those mystery dumplings. Also a win!
  • Third time – sesame balls. They looked perfect!

Moment of Truth!

Time for the taste test! I grabbed a spring roll, took a big bite, and…YES! Crispy, crunchy, and hot. It tasted pretty darn close to the restaurant version, if I do say so myself. The dumplings were also fantastic, and the sesame balls were sweet and satisfying.

Overall, I’d call this deep-fried dim sum experiment a success! It was a bit messy, and I definitely learned a few things along the way (like, don’t wear your favorite shirt while frying). But it was totally worth it for that crispy, delicious goodness. I’ll definitely be making these again!
