Alright guys, so today I’m spilling the tea on my recent kitchen adventure: tackling some quick and easy Asian desserts! I’m no pastry chef, but I love a sweet treat, and these recipes were surprisingly doable.

First up, Mango Sticky Rice. I’ve always been intimidated by this one, but honestly, it’s all about the rice. I started by soaking the sweet rice for like, a couple of hours. Then, I steamed it instead of boiling – trust me, makes a HUGE difference. While that was steaming, I whipped up the coconut milk sauce. Just coconut milk, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Simmered it until it thickened slightly. Sliced up a ripe mango, and boom! Layered the sticky rice, drizzled with the coconut sauce, and topped with mango slices. It was seriously restaurant-quality, if I do say so myself.
Next, I tried my hand at Matcha Green Tea Mochi. This one was a bit trickier, but still pretty straightforward. I mixed glutinous rice flour, sugar, and matcha powder in a bowl. Then, I slowly added water until it formed a smooth batter. Steamed that mixture for about 20 minutes, until it was cooked through and kinda translucent. The hardest part was handling the sticky dough! I used cornstarch to prevent it from sticking everywhere. Shaped them into little balls and you know what? They were perfect with a cup of coffee later!
Lastly, I decided on Sesame Balls. I found the recipe online looked easy enough. Mixed glutinous rice flour with sugar and warm water to form a dough. Then, I rolled the dough into small balls, dipped them in water, and coated them generously with sesame seeds. Deep-fried them until they were golden brown and crispy. Be careful of oil splatter!! Let them cool slightly, and then devoured them. SO good! Crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside.
So, that’s my dessert-making journey! These recipes were all fairly quick and easy, and they satisfied my sweet tooth BIG TIME. Definitely adding them to my regular rotation. Give them a try, you won’t regret it!
