Alright, let’s talk about some grub for a tea party, you know, the kind that ain’t all sugar and sweets. We need some real food, stuff that fills ya up, not just makes your teeth hurt.
First off, we gotta have some sandwiches, but not those big ol’ hoagies. We’re talkin’ dainty little things, like those cucumber ones. Never understood why folks like cucumber so much, tastes like water to me, but hey, it’s fancy, right? You can also make some with egg salad, or maybe some ham and cheese, but keep ’em small, like for birds or somethin’. You know, the kind you can eat in two bites, three bites tops. And cut off them crusts, nobody wants them hard edges.
- Cucumber sandwiches (thin slices, no crusts!)
- Egg salad sandwiches (small and neat)
- Ham and cheese sandwiches (again, small!)
Then, we need somethin’ warm. Those quiche things, they’re kinda like pies but with eggs and cheese and stuff. You can put all sorts of things in ’em, like spinach or bacon. Just make sure it ain’t runny, nobody wants a mess on their good clothes. I made one last week with some leftover ham and it was pretty darn good, even if I do say so myself.
And those scotch eggs, they’re kinda fancy too. Hard-boiled eggs wrapped in sausage and then fried. Sounds like a heart attack waitin’ to happen, but they’re tasty. You can buy ’em ready-made at the store, saves you the trouble of fryin’ stuff. Makes a nice change from all them sweet things.
Another thing that’s good is little sausages, you know, the cocktail kind. The ones that are already cooked, you just heat ’em up. Wrap ’em in some pastry if you wanna be real fancy, or just stick ’em on a plate with some toothpicks. Kids love ’em, and grown-ups too, secretly. I always keep a bag in the freezer, just in case company comes over.
Now, for somethin’ a bit different, how about those salmon thingies? I saw a picture once, little balls of salmon and potatoes, fried up all crispy. Sounded kinda fishy to me, but I guess some folks like that. You could add some dill, whatever that is, and some lemon juice, make it all fancy-like. It is a tea party after all, gotta put on a show, right?
And don’t forget the cheese and crackers! That’s always a good one. Get some sharp cheddar, some Swiss, maybe even some of that fancy blue cheese, if you’re feelin’ adventurous. And those little crackers, the buttery kind. Or some crusty bread, sliced thin. Easy to put together and everyone likes it.
Finally, you can make some scones, but not the sweet kind. Cheese scones, they call ’em. They’re kinda like biscuits, but with cheese baked right in. You can put some chutney on ’em, or just butter. They’re good warm, with a cup of tea. Not my personal favorite, I like my biscuits plain, but some folks go crazy for ’em.
So there you have it, some ideas for savory tea party food. Just remember, keep it small, keep it tasty, and don’t spend all day in the kitchen. Ain’t nobody got time for that. Tea parties are supposed to be fun, not a chore. Now go on, get to cookin’!
One last thing, don’t forget the tea! Gotta have tea at a tea party, that’s just common sense. Black tea, green tea, whatever you like. Just make sure it’s hot and strong. And maybe a little milk and sugar, if you’re so inclined. Alright, now I’m done. Go on, shoo! You got a party to plan.
