Best Homemade Dim Sum Fillings (Try These Delicious Recipes at Home)

So, I decided to make some dim sum at home yesterday. It’s something I’ve wanted to try for a long time, and I finally took the plunge. I woke up early, and the first thing I did was prepare the fillings.

For the shrimp dumplings, I chopped up some shrimp, mixed it with a bit of ginger, garlic, and some seasonings. It smelled pretty good already! Then, for the pork and chive dumplings, I ground some pork, diced a bunch of chives, and mixed them together with soy sauce, sesame oil, and a few other things. The kitchen was starting to smell like a real dim sum place.

Making the Wrappers

  • Next up, the wrappers. I decided to make them from scratch because, why not? I mixed flour and water, kneaded the dough for what felt like forever, and then let it rest.
  • After it rested, I rolled it out super thin and cut it into circles. I was so surprised. It was not as difficult as I thought.
  • This part was a bit tricky, but filling the wrappers was actually kind of fun. I placed a spoonful of filling in the center of each wrapper, then carefully folded and pinched the edges to seal them. They didn’t look perfect, but hey, they were homemade!

Then came the steaming part. I set up my steamer, placed the dumplings inside, making sure they weren’t touching each other, and let them steam for about 10-15 minutes. The anticipation was killing me!

Finally, they were done! I carefully took them out of the steamer. They looked pretty decent, if I do say so myself. I whipped up a quick dipping sauce with some soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil, and dug in.

They were delicious! The shrimp dumplings were juicy and flavorful, and the pork and chive ones were just as good. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. I’m definitely going to make dim sum again sometime. Maybe next time I’ll try some different fillings.
