Dim Sum, huh? Let me tell ya ’bout it.
I ain’t no fancy city folk, but I know good food when I taste it. This Dim Sum thing, they say it’s from China. Well, I ain’t been to China, but I reckon they know how to cook up a storm over there. This Dim Sum, it’s like… well, it’s like little bits of this and that, all steamed up and tasty.
You got your dumplings, see? Little pockets of dough, filled with all sorts of stuff. Shrimp, pork, veggies… they put it all in there. And the buns! Fluffy, white buns, with sweet or savory fillings. I like the ones with the pork, myself. Good and hearty, you know?

- Wraps: Like a thin pancake, rolled up with goodies.
- Noodle Rolls: Noodles all rolled up with meat and veggies.
Then there’s the wraps, like little thin pancakes, rolled up with more good stuff inside. And noodle rolls, too. All soft and slippery, with meat and veggies tucked in tight. It’s all about sharing, you see. You don’t just eat Dim Sum by yourself. You get a bunch of different things and everyone digs in. That’s the way to do it.
Now, where can you get this Dim Sum in the UK, you ask? Well, I heard tell there’s places in London, big city places. Covent Garden, they say. Some fancy place called Din Tai Fung, started up in Taiwan, they tell me. Sounded foreign to me, but I heard their dumplings are somethin’ special. I bet it’s a bit pricey though. They say there’s another place too, Royal China Baker Street. Don’t know much about that one, but I’d bet they got good grub if they are making Dim Sum, that is as long as they do not skimp out on the shrimp like Ol’ Jimmy at the market does.
I heard people talkin’ ‘bout how hot and tasty the food is. Piping hot, they say. That’s how I like it. Nothin’ worse than cold food, unless it’s supposed to be cold, like ice cream. But Dim Sum? Gotta be hot. And delicious, of course. Folks say it’s perfect for brunch or lunch or even with a cup of tea, but let me tell you if I make my way into one of those city spots, I will be eating it for supper too!
I reckon Dim Sum’s good for any time of day, really. It ain’t too heavy, so you can eat it in the mornin’ or afternoon. But it’s fillin’ enough to keep you goin’ if you eat enough of it. And it’s fun to eat, too. All those little bites, you get to try a bit of everything. It’s like a potluck but you don’t have to bring nothing, which is just fine by me because them city folk got enough money to feed everyone!
I tell ya, this Dim Sum stuff, it’s somethin’ else. If you ever get a chance to try it, don’t pass it up. It’s a taste of somethin’ different, somethin’ good. And who knows, you might just find yourself a new favorite food. Just make sure you got enough to go around though because Dim Sum is for sharing. You get me? Alright then. And don’t forget the tea! They always say Dim Sum goes good with tea. I ain’t much of a tea drinker myself, but I reckon it helps wash it all down. Plus, it makes you feel all fancy and proper, like you’re in one of them high-falutin’ restaurants in the city. And if you’re anything like me you are only dressing up if someone died or is gettin’ married so it is nice to feel a bit fancy sometimes.
So that’s the lowdown on Dim Sum, as best as I can tell ya. It’s tasty, it’s fun, and it’s somethin’ you gotta try. Now go on, get yourself some. You won’t regret it. Just remember what I told ya, lots of different kinds and you have got to share! That is what makes it special. And don’t forget to try those buns, they are my favorite, especially if they got some of that barbequed pork in ‘em.
One last thing. They say this Dim Sum is like a light meal. Well, let me tell ya, you can make it light or you can make it heavy. It’s all up to you and how much you eat. Me? I like to eat a good amount, enough to keep me full for a while. But you do what you like, that’s what I always say.
