Best Dim Sum Sauce Recipe: How to Get that Classic Flavor

Alright, folks, so I’ve been on this huge dim sum kick lately. I mean, who doesn’t love those little baskets of deliciousness? But going out for dim sum all the time gets pricey, so I decided to try making some at home. The dumplings themselves? Another story for another day. Today, it’s all about the SAUCE.

I messed around in the kitchen, it is not easy. I mean, I love to cook everything, so first I searched for the dim sum recipes. And found so many, and tried several ways and finally got it! I’ve finally nailed down a sauce that I think is pretty darn good. It’s got that perfect balance of sweet, savory, and tangy that just makes everything taste better.

My Dim Sum Sauce Experiment

First things first, I gathered my ingredients. I used some of it that I already had in my kitchen:

  • Soy sauce (the regular kind, not the dark stuff)
  • Rice vinegar (because it’s got that nice, mild tang)
  • Sugar (just plain white sugar)
  • Sesame oil (the toasted kind, for that nutty flavor)
  • Chili garlic sauce (because I like a little kick!)
  • Water (to thin it out a bit)

I started by mixing the soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sugar in a small bowl. I kinda just eyeballed the amounts, to be honest. I probably used about 1/4 cup of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar, and a tablespoon of sugar. But you do you, adjust it to your own taste!

Then,I added the sesame oil, chili garlic sauce. I stirred everything together until the sugar was all dissolved. and added a couple of tablespoons of water to get it to the consistency I wanted. Not too thick, not too runny.

Then I tasted. I thought, “Hmm, needs a bit more of a kick,” so I added a tiny bit more chili garlic sauce. Perfect!

Finally, I had my dim sum sauce! It’s perfect with dumplings, spring rolls, whatever you’ve got.

This whole process took me, like, maybe 10 minutes? Super easy, super fast, and way cheaper than buying a bottle of pre-made sauce. Plus, you can totally customize it to your own liking. More sweet? Add more sugar. More tangy? More vinegar. You get the idea.

So there you have it! My super simple, super tasty dim sum sauce recipe. Give it a try, and let me know what you think! Happy cooking!
