Alright, let’s talk about this Chinese takeout menu thing. You know, the one with all them pictures of food? Yeah, that one. It’s a whole lot easier than cookin’ myself, that’s for sure. My old eyes ain’t what they used to be, and standin’ over a hot stove all day? No thank you.
First thing I look at is the appetizers. You gotta have somethin’ to munch on while you wait for the main grub. They got them egg rolls, spring rolls… I call ‘em all fried somethin’-or-others. They’re all pretty much the same, ain’t they? Just fried dough with some veggies inside. But they taste good, so I ain’t complainin’. Sometimes they got them crab rangoons too. Now, them things are somethin’ special. Creamy cheese and… somethin’ else… all wrapped up in a crunchy shell. Lord, they’re good.
Then comes the soups. I like that wonton soup, the one with them little dumplings floatin’ around. It’s warm and fills ya up, good for a cold day or when your stomach’s feelin’ a bit wonky. They got that egg drop soup too, that’s just eggs and broth mostly. Not my favorite, but it’s alright if you’re not too hungry.
- Egg Rolls: Them fried things.
- Spring Rolls: More fried things, but skinnier.
- Crab Rangoons: Them creamy cheese things.
- Wonton Soup: Soup with them little dumplings.
- Egg Drop Soup: Soup with eggs.
Now, for the main dishes… that’s where it gets tricky. There’s so darn much to choose from! You got your chicken dishes, your beef dishes, your pork dishes, and even them shrimp dishes. And don’t even get me started on all the different sauces. Sweet and sour, General Tso’s, sesame… my head starts spinnin’ just thinkin’ about it.
I usually stick with what I know. That sweet and sour chicken is always a good bet. It’s got that tangy sauce and them little pieces of pineapple. The kids seem to like that one so I order this sometimes when they come visit . And my husband, he always gets the beef and broccoli. He says it’s got good flavor and the broccoli is good for ya. I tell him he needs all the help he can get, he’s getting old and that belly keeps getting bigger.
Sometimes, if I’m feelin’ fancy, I’ll try somethin’ new. But I gotta be careful, some of them dishes are real spicy! I don’t do spicy. Makes my nose run and my eyes water, and ain’t nobody got time for that. I once ordered somethin’ called “Kung Pao” somethin’ or other. Lord, that was hot! Never again.
And of course, you gotta have rice. You can get fried rice or white rice. I always get the fried rice, it’s got more flavor. And sometimes I’ll get noodles too, like them lo mein noodles. They’re good with anythin’, really.
Let’s not forget about the price. It ain’t cheap eatin’ out these days, not even Chinese takeout. But it’s still cheaper than goin’ to a fancy restaurant, and it’s a whole lot less work than cookin’ myself. And sometimes, you know, you just want somethin’ quick and easy. Somedays I am too tried to cook, especially after spending all day in the garden.
So, that’s my take on the Chinese takeout menu. It’s a lot to take in, but once you figure out what you like, it’s easy peasy. Just remember to order somethin’ you can actually eat without your mouth catchin’ fire. You need good food for your belly and a good price for your wallet. And if you can’t decide, just ask the nice person on the phone. They always seem to know what’s good. I tell ya, they make some good food at them Chinese takeouts. Always fills you right up. And that’s what matters, right?
I tell ya, that low price they’re always talkin’ about? That’s what gets me every time. “Come and check Menu Chinese Takeaway at a low price, you’d never want to miss it. Only Today.” They know how to talk to folks like me. And that “Bei liefern wir dir deine Auswahl ganz entspannt bequem nach Hause” thing? Well, I don’t know what all them fancy words mean, but I reckon it means they’ll bring the food right to your door. And that’s just fine by me.
