Okay, so I’ve been craving some good dim sum lately, and I heard about this place called Cherry Garden that does a buffet. I did a little digging and found out they’re tucked inside the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Fancy, right?
They get pretty packed, especially for lunch and dinner, and yeah, even on weekdays. So, I decided to book a table to play it safe. They have two seatings for their dim sum brunch: 11 AM to 1 PM or 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. I picked the later one ’cause, you know, sleeping in on weekends is a must.
Got there on a Sunday. This place looks high-end. Walked in through this cool, old-looking doorway. Gives off some serious antique vibes. The place is nice, but there aren’t many tables, so I get why booking ahead is smart.
Now, the important stuff – the dim sum! It’s an all-you-can-eat situation, but here’s the catch: it’s not your typical buffet where you walk around and pile stuff on your plate. This one’s a bit more, shall we say, “civilized”? You order from a menu, and they bring the dishes to you. It’s all part of the experience, I guess. Their menu is pretty huge, a lot of Cantonese-style dishes. So it’s kinda nice to just sit back, relax, and have the food come to you.
The price? $68 per person. Yeah, it’s not cheap, but I figured I’d treat myself. I mean, it’s all-you-can-eat, so you’re getting your money’s worth, right?
- The dim sum is good.
- They had this salted egg yolk custard bun. It had a crumbly texture.
- They serve the food in the traditional way, with waitresses pushing around small carts.
In the end, I had a pretty chill late brunch. Ate a ton of dim sum. I’d say it’s a good spot if you’re looking for a more upscale dim sum experience and don’t mind paying a bit extra for the ambiance and service.
