Affordable Dim Sum Lunch Hong Kong: Where to Go for a Tasty and Budget-Friendly Meal

So, yesterday I decided to dive into the dim sum scene in Hong Kong. You know, when in Hong Kong, gotta have dim sum, right?

I had heard some good things online and made a mental list. But you know how it is, plans change. I stumbled upon this little place called “One Dim Sum.” It was not even on my original list. Sounded interesting, something about it being cheap and local. Perfect. I was on a tight budget, so this was right up my alley.

Walked in, and the place was buzzing. Lots of locals, always a good sign. Grabbed a table, and the menu was all in Chinese. Okay, no problem. I know a few dim sum dishes’ names. I ordered the usual suspects: har gow (shrimp dumplings), siu mai (pork dumplings), and some char siu bao (barbecue pork buns). Pointed at a few pictures too, just to be adventurous.

  • The har gow arrived first. Steaming hot, and the skin was perfectly thin, almost see-through.
  • Next up, the siu mai. These were juicy and packed with flavor.
  • The char siu bao was soft and fluffy, with a sweet and savory filling.

I also tried this other place that was recommended online, called “Lin Heung Tea House.” This place was an experience. I noticed the birdcages hanging around, super old school. The vibe was very casual, and you could tell it had been around for ages. Ordered a bunch of stuff there too. Pretty much devoured everything I saw, trying to pick things that seemed authentic and tasty.

While chowing down, I overheard some folks talking about a buffet place called “Ahimsa Buffet” originally from North Point. Didn’t get to try it, but it sounded like a good deal if you are really hungry. So I just jot it down for next time, maybe.

All in all, it was a solid dim sum day. Ate a ton of food, spent way less than I thought I would, and got a real taste of that local Hong Kong vibe. Definitely worth it, and I’d recommend hitting up these spots if you’re ever in town and looking for a budget-friendly dim sum feast.

My Dim Sum Experience Summary

Tried a few places, some planned, some not. Loved the food, especially at “One Dim Sum”. “Lin Heung Tea House” was more about the experience than the food itself, but still cool. And found out about this buffet place for next time. Good times!
