Dim Sum in Richmond: A Locals Guide to the Best Places

So, the other day, I decided to hit up this place in Richmond that everyone’s been talking about. It was a Saturday morning, and my stomach was already rumbling, thinking about those delicious little dumplings and buns. I got there pretty early, around 10 AM, hoping to beat the rush. Parking was a bit of a nightmare, but I finally found a spot a few blocks away. I walked over, and the place was already buzzing with people. I managed to grab a table after a short wait, which was great.

What I Ordered

First thing I did was to order some classic Har Gow (shrimp dumplings). You just can’t go wrong with those. The skin was thin and the shrimp inside were nice and juicy.

  • Har Gow (Shrimp Dumplings): These were the bomb. The skin was just right, not too thick, and the shrimp inside were super fresh.
  • Siu Mai (Pork and Shrimp Dumplings): Another classic. These were juicy and had a good balance of pork and shrimp. I could eat a whole basket of these.
  • Char Siu Bao (BBQ Pork Buns): These were soft and fluffy, and the BBQ pork filling was sweet and savory. Definitely a must-try.
  • Lo Mai Gai (Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf): This was a big one, filled with chicken, mushrooms, and Chinese sausage. It was sticky, savory, and just plain comforting.
  • Egg Tarts: For dessert, I got some egg tarts. The crust was flaky, and the custard was smooth and creamy. A perfect way to end the meal.

I also ordered some Siu Mai (pork and shrimp dumplings) because why not? They were delicious too, with a good mix of pork and shrimp. Then I went for some Char Siu Bao (BBQ pork buns), and man, they were good. The buns were fluffy, and the BBQ pork filling was just sweet enough. I also tried the Lo Mai Gai (sticky rice in lotus leaf), which was packed with chicken, mushrooms, and sausage. It was so filling and satisfying.

To finish it all off, I had some egg tarts. These were the perfect ending to a great meal, with a flaky crust and creamy custard.

The Experience

The service was pretty quick, and the staff were friendly, and constantly refilling our tea. The place was packed, but it had a good vibe, lots of families and friends enjoying their meals. It felt like a genuine dim sum experience.

Overall, I was super happy with my dim sum adventure in Richmond. The food was great, the service was on point, and the atmosphere was lively. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for some good dim sum. I’ll be back for sure, maybe next time I’ll try some of their other dishes, but for now, I’m just going to sit back and enjoy the food coma. I gave this place a solid four out of five stars.

Hope you guys enjoyed my little food journey! Catch you in the next one!
