Okay, so I was craving some BBQ the other day, but I didn’t want to go out and buy a bottle of sauce. Plus, I’m not a big fan of those super sugary, artificial-tasting ones you find at the store. So, I decided to try making my own, and let me tell you, it was way easier than I thought!
First, I grabbed some ketchup from the fridge, that’s the base for most BBQ sauces, right? Then, I rummaged through my pantry and found some brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and some spices like garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. I figured those would give it a nice, smoky flavor.
I just dumped about a cup of ketchup into a saucepan, then added a couple of tablespoons of brown sugar, a splash of vinegar, and a dash of Worcestershire. I sprinkled in the spices, not really measuring, just eyeballing it until it looked about right. I turned on the stove to low heat and let that mixture simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring it occasionally. The house started to smell amazing!
- About 1 cup of ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
While it was simmering, I tasted it a few times and adjusted the ingredients. I wanted it a bit sweeter, so I added a little more brown sugar. I also added a pinch of cayenne pepper for a little kick at the end. You can totally customize it to your liking. If you like it tangier, add more vinegar. Want it smokier? More smoked paprika!
It turned out amazing!
After 15 minutes, I turned off the heat and let it cool down a bit. I couldn’t resist dipping a spoon in to taste it, and let me tell you, it was so good! Way better than any store-bought sauce I’ve had. It was sweet, tangy, smoky, and had just the right amount of spice. I used it to glaze some chicken I was baking, and it was the perfect finishing touch. My family loved it too! They couldn’t believe I made it myself.
Honestly, I’m never buying BBQ sauce again. This was so quick, easy, and delicious. Plus, I know exactly what’s in it, no weird ingredients or preservatives. If you’re looking for a simple and tasty BBQ sauce recipe, you have to try this one! You won’t be disappointed.
