Okay, so I’ve been trying to eat healthier lately, and a big part of that is cutting out gluten. It’s tough, especially when eating out. But I heard that Cracker Barrel has some gluten-free options, so I decided to give it a shot for breakfast.

I went online to do a little research, but honestly, it wasn’t super helpful. Cracker Barrel’s website doesn’t really have a dedicated gluten-free menu, and there are a lot of mixed messages out there. Some people say they have tons of options, others say it’s really limited. So, I just decided to go in and see for myself.

When I got there, I asked the server about gluten-free options. She was nice, but she didn’t seem to know too much and had to go ask her supervisor. They didn’t have a separate menu or anything, so she basically had to just tell me what I could and couldn’t have from the regular menu.

Breakfast Findings

For breakfast, it seemed like the safest bet was to stick with the basics. I decided to skip the pancakes and I am pretty sure the biscuit and any bread were off-limits, obviously. I ended up ordering the following:

  • Eggs: I went with scrambled eggs. They seemed pretty safe, and I made sure to tell the server to cook them on a clean surface.
  • Bacon: Can’t go wrong with bacon, right? It’s naturally gluten-free, so I felt good about that.
  • Fruit: I got a side of fresh fruit instead of hash browns or grits. Just wanted to be extra cautious.

The food arrived, and it looked pretty good. The eggs were cooked well, the bacon was crispy, and the fruit was fresh. I ate it all without any problems, and I didn’t feel sick afterward, which is always a good sign when you’re trying to avoid gluten. I also got a coffee with milk and sugar.

Overall, it wasn’t the most exciting breakfast, but it was gluten-free and filled me up. Cracker Barrel could definitely do a better job of making their gluten-free options clearer. A separate menu or even just some more information online would be a huge help. But, in a pinch, you can make it work. Just be sure to communicate clearly with the staff and stick to the simpler items on the menu.
