Okay, so today I wanted to mess around with some quick sketching, just to loosen up and have some fun, you know? I wasn’t aiming for perfection, just wanted to see what I could whip up without overthinking it.
First, I grabbed my sketchbook and a few pencils – nothing fancy, just a regular 2B and a 4B for some darker lines. I didn’t even bother with an eraser because, hey, mistakes are part of the process, right?
Warm-up Scribbles
I started by just making some random scribbles on the page. I mean, literally just letting my hand flow. Circles, zigzags, swirls – anything to get the pencil moving and my hand used to the paper. I did this for a good five minutes, not really thinking about what I was doing.
Simple Shapes
Next, I moved on to some basic shapes. I drew a bunch of squares, circles, and triangles, trying to vary the sizes and overlap them a bit. It felt a little like going back to kindergarten, but it was actually pretty helpful for getting a feel for proportions and composition without the pressure of drawing something specific.
Quick Object Sketches
- Cupcake: Started with a simple trapezoid for the base, then added a fluffy cloud shape on top for the frosting. I threw in a few sprinkles for good measure. It was super basic, but recognizable, which is all I was going for.
- Flower: I did a generic daisy-type flower. A circle in the center, then some quick petal shapes around it. I varied the petal sizes a bit to make it look a little more natural. For the stem, I just drew a slightly curved line and added a couple of leaves.
- Puppy: Okay, this one was a bit more challenging, but still fun. I started with a circle for the head, then added two floppy ear shapes. For the body, I drew a kind of rounded rectangle. Then I added four little stick legs. The face was just two dots for eyes and a little triangle for the nose. It definitely looked more like a cartoon puppy than a realistic one, but it made me smile.
Wrapping Up
After about 30 minutes, I stopped. My sketchbook was filled with a bunch of messy but fun little drawings. I didn’t create any masterpieces, but that wasn’t the point. I felt more relaxed, my hand felt looser, and I had a bunch of ideas for maybe doing some more detailed drawings later. It was a really satisfying way to spend a little time, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to get back into drawing or just have some creative fun.
So, yeah, that was my little quick sketch adventure for today. Hope you enjoyed hearing about it! Maybe I will try it again next week.
