My Trip to Check Out Dim Sum Garden’s Menu in Philly
So, I found myself wandering around Philly’s Chinatown the other day, stomach starting to rumble. I’d heard folks talk about Dim Sum Garden quite a bit, you know, the place famous for its soup dumplings. Curiosity got the better of me, and I figured, why not go see what their menu situation is like? I wasn’t even sure if I’d eat, just wanted to scope it out first.

Walked up to the spot. It looked pretty busy, which I usually take as a good sign. Stepped inside, and yeah, it had that bustling, no-nonsense dim sum place vibe. My main goal was just to get my hands on a menu.
It wasn’t hard to find one. They had takeaway menus near the front, and you could also see the table menus people were using. I grabbed one of the paper takeaway ones to look over without being in the way.
Flipping Through the Options
Okay, first impression? It was pretty packed with stuff. Lots of categories. I immediately went looking for the dumplings section, of course.
- Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings): Yep, front and center. They had the classic pork, and also a crab and pork version. Made a mental note – definitely need to try those if I decide to eat.
- Other Dumplings: Saw shumai, crystal shrimp dumplings (har gow), potstickers… the usual suspects were all there. Looked like a solid selection.
- Beyond Dumplings: Scanned the rest. They had scallion pancakes, different kinds of buns (pork buns looked tempting), noodle dishes like Dan Dan Noodles, fried rice, and some bigger entree-type dishes too.
The layout was straightforward, mostly lists of items with prices. Some pictures here and there, which always helps when you’re not familiar with every single dish name. Prices seemed reasonable for a city spot, nothing looked wildly expensive.
I spent a good few minutes just standing there, imagining what everything tasted like. The descriptions were simple, mostly just listing the main ingredients. No fancy talk, just straight-up descriptions.
Decision Time
Seeing the menu definitely made me hungry. The soup dumplings were calling my name. I figured since I was already there, might as well give them a try. I ended up going back to the counter and ordering the pork soup dumplings and some steamed vegetable dumplings too – wanted to keep it simple for a first taste based on what I saw on that menu.
So yeah, that was my little mission to check out the Dim Sum Garden menu. Started with just wanting to see it, ended up ordering because it looked pretty good. It’s a decent menu, covers all the dim sum bases you’d expect. Definitely confirmed why people talk about their soup dumplings; they made sure to highlight them. Solid experience just understanding what they offer.
