Alright, so people always seem surprised I even bother with eye makeup most days. Honestly, it’s because I figured out a way that takes, like, literally three minutes. Most mornings are chaos, you know? Getting kids ready, finding lost shoes, the usual madness. So spending ages blending eyeshadow? Not happening.

My Super Basic Toolkit
Forget fancy stuff. I learned pretty quick that sticking to basics is key. Here’s what’s always on my counter:
- A soft brown eyeliner pencil. Doesn’t need to be expensive. Just something kinda smudgy.
- Basic mascara. Whatever’s cheap and doesn’t clump too bad.
- Maybe a neutral shimmery eyeshadow stick. Emphasis on maybe. Only if I have an extra 30 seconds.
That’s it. Seriously. No primers, no complicated brushes, no multi-shade palettes. Tried those, they just gather dust or end up broken on the floor thanks to a toddler.
How I Slap It On
Okay, so first thing after my moisturizer sinks in (if I remembered moisturizer), I grab that brown pencil. I don’t draw a sharp line. Who has the skill or time for that? I just sorta wiggle it right into the roots of my top lashes. Just scribble-scribble close to the eye. Doesn’t have to be neat.
Then, the important part: I take my pinky finger and just smudge that line upwards a tiny bit. Smudge smudge smudge. Makes it look softer, less like I drew it on with a crayon, more like a hazy shadow. Takes like, 10 seconds per eye. Sometimes I do a tiny bit on the outer corner of the lower lashes too, and smudge that.
Next, mascara. One coat. Wiggle the wand at the base of the lashes and pull it through. I don’t bother with bottom lashes most days, they just smudge on me anyway. Just the top is fine, makes my eyes look more awake.

If, and only if, I feel like I need to look slightly more put-together, I take that shimmery eyeshadow stick. Usually a champagne or light bronze color. I swipe it just on the center of my eyelid, right above the iris. Then I tap it a bit with my finger to blend the edges. Adds a little brightness without any real effort.
And boom. Done. My eyes look defined, I look less tired, and it took less time than brushing my teeth. It’s not gonna win any beauty awards, but it works for real life. It gets me out the door, and that’s the main goal, right?
